A child spends about 1 to 2 years in Preschool and develops the much needed foundation for education in the mainstream by the age of 4 to 6 years.
Aural-oral mode, Auditory verbal mode, Bilingual mode (speech and Indian sign language) are the different modes of communication used in the EIP of NISH.
No direct enrolment-entry is only from Parent Infant Program (PIP) or Preschool Support Program(PSP)
Teacher student ratio will be 1:4
Active parent participation is required
Group sessions which follow planned, activity based learning.
Every session should include activities to enhance auditory learning, high level imagination and reading success
Focuses on early literacy skills- reading,writing and arithmetic skills
Group conversations, sharing of information, field trips, group play, story time, art, craft and music will be the key activities at this level
Duration of class is 1 hour to 4 hours for 2 to 4 days per week depending on the age and stages of the child.
Training is offered either in Malayalam or in English. It is important that the parent is fluent in the language chosen.
A child spends about 2 years in PIP. There are different modes of communication in the EIP of NISH. They are aural-oral mode, Auditory verbal mode and Bilingual mode(Speech and Indian Sign language) If a child finds difficulty in any one mode he/she is shifted to a more appropriate mode based on the assessment done by a multidisciplinary team and informed decision of parents.
Direct enrolment into the program after identifying with hearing loss.
Admission age –below 3 years
The children who are identified with hearing loss and fitted with any hearing device (Hearing aids, Cochlear implant and BAHA etc) are enrolled in this program.
Teacher student ratio will be 1:1
Active parent participation

Frequency of sessions- twice in a week

Sessions, depending on the mode of intervention, will focus on active listening, language, speech, cognition and social communication goals.
All the activities will be both age appropriate/developmentally appropriate and based on regular assessment of the level of each child.
Appropriate guidance will be given to parents to carry out the same at home to promote
listening and language skill through play and daily routines.
Online telerehabilitation at NISH
NISH has started an online tele-rehabilitation service for outreach students as per certain conditions. The platform for the session is Google Meet.
